April 1st Northeast Census Walk - Volunteers Wanted!

Did you know that it costs just $.42 cents to mail back the census form in a postage paid envelop but it costs taxpayers $25 per person to send a census taker door-to-door to collect the same information if they didn’t mail it back? It's true and that's a big difference!

Join me tomorrow, April 1st, National Census Day, at my Northeast/Eagle Rock office as we canvas the Northeast community to ensure a complete count in CD14!

10 Questions in 10 Minutes = Millions of Dollars for Los Angeles

Details:

Thursday, April 1st, 2010
6pm-8pm
Northeast Office/Eagle Rock City Hall
2035 Colorado Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90042

If you have any questions or need assistance with your form, please contact the Northeast office: 323.254.5295 or the 2010 Census Toll-Free Help line: 866.872.6868

Census Count Begins This Month!

On Monday I had the opportunity to introduce U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert M. Groves at the Boyle Heights Technology Center. The video below has several speakers speaking on the urgency of the Census. By answering 10 simple questions in the census survey, you will help Los Angeles obtain millions of dollars in federal funding for things like hospitals, job training centers, schools, senior centers, bridges, tunnels and other public works projects, as well as much needed emergency services.
The video takes about 5 minutes to start, but you can watch all the speakers.

Eleven months ago, I joined Mayor Villaraigosa, Magic Johnson and Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, to promote the Census. We were back at it again today, along with the Mayor, and Councilmember Krekorian letting people know that the mailers will be going out the week of March 15. As I told U.S. Bureau Director Groves yesterday in Boyle Heights, we cannot do enough to get the word out. I’ve formed a Complete Count Committee in CD 14 and I want to thank everybody who is working so hard to make this year’s Census count a success, including the media who have consistently covered events promoting Census outreach and especially all our community partners who are volunteering their time to ensure that Los Angeles gets its fair share of funds. For more information on the census visit www.2010.Census.gov. To join the CD14 Complete Count Committee, call my office at (213) 473-7014.

Census Count Begins in March

I joined the Mayor and Census LA Director Jamey Christy for a press conference today hoping to get the word out that the 2010 Census is coming soon and all Angelenos need to participate. This year’s Census will have implications that will be felt for an entire decade. My office is working on creating a CD 14 Counting Committee to make sure we do all we can to get people to fill out the Census' easy 10-question survey.
